Yesterday, Metallica performed an unreleased track off Death Magnetic, ‘Rebel of Babylon’, for the first time. Footage was filmed at The Fillmore in San Francisco, California (the last of four Metallica 30th birthday concerts). The song was inspired by Layne Staley. They also reunited with Mustaine for the first time since 1982.

New Music Alert: Shem’s Disciples

If you live in the NY-area, add Shem’s Disciples to your list of bands to see live. Shem’s mix of reggae and live hip-hop draw influences from the soulful spirit of Richie Havens, the hypnotic reggae sound of Peter Tosh, and the tight rhyming flow of Talib Kweli. Season that with an afro-Caribbean and a Middle Eastern spice and that’s Shem’s Disciples.

Take a listen to the first single off their new album 5771/2010. The single, now on itunes, is called Nachum Ish Gam Zu. This track is straight up, real roots reggae that was recorded at Version City studios with King Django.

Starting with this single, Shem’s will release one song a month this year. The next track entitled Days of Old will be available in late November off the Band’s Website and Facebook Page.

My Darkest Days – Porn Star Dancing video

So here’s the debut single from the band My Darkest Days. It’s (gotta be) blowing in the strip clubs these days and probably will eventually make it to the bars. It’s like a newer version of Def Leppard’s Pour Some Sugar On Me. Yes, that is Chad Kroeger of Nickelback doing the second verse so the awesomeness of this video takes a hit but…. and it’s a huuuuuuge but…. Ludacris comes in dropping rhymes right after that, so he pretty much cancels out Kroeger’s suckfest. The video has two more good things going for it. First is that Zakk Wylde is killing it on the guitar. Wylde is formerly a guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne and currently with Black Label Society. The other thing is that lead singer Matt Walst is brothers with Three Days Grace bassist Brad Walst. So that’s cool. I’m off to SCORES to go watch ladies get nekkid to this jam.
