Indian baby born with vagina on her forehead

In New Delhi, the wife of a local sheep herder gave birth to a baby girl with two vaginas. The baby, healthy at 8lbs 6 oz, was immediately rushed through intensive surgery to remove the potentially fatal vagina from her forehead. “It’s a miracle she’s alive,” said surgeon Dr. Bahskar Gumpta. In my thirty-three years here, I’ve never seen anything like this. You hear about this happening to goats, but never baby girls.”

The baby girl, named Hemangini after the goddess of fertility, was born last Friday at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. “I thought the baby was born without any legs,” commented Dr. Gupta. “But then I saw her eyes and knew we were about to see something special.”

Hemangini was born with the rare condition of “urogenital bi-folds,” a condition found seldom in humans, and more often in goats and other grass-grazing animals. A delicate procedure to remove the excessive ovaries took nearly nine surgeons and thirty-six hours to complete.

“We feel so blessed to have her in our lives,” said proud father Jishnu Lokprakash. “It’s almost like I love her twice as much. But I have to admit, that was one too many vaginas!”
