Last night I had the chance to check out the hotly anticipated new project between Danger Mouse and the Shins’ James Mercer, Broken Bells. Williamsburg Hall of Music was packed out. Not even the skinniest of hipsters could move around as the two alongside their four-member backing band took the stage to perform a steady non stop playlist from their debut album.

As i heard someone say– You can hear The Shins. You can hear Danger Mouse. You can hear the 80s and Gorillaz and post-punk and Fleetwood Mac and new wave and Theivery Corp. and a lot of other stuff. It was definitely feelgood art rock, culminating with an encore of Neil Young’s “Don’t Let It Bring You Down” followed by the classic “Crimson and Clover.”

My favorite song of the night was Mongrel Heart. Take a listen . . .
