What to Watch This Week: “When You’re Strange: A Film About The Doors”

Following a prestigious festival run, WHEN YOU’RE STRANGE: A FILM ABOUT THE DOORS will receive a theatrical release in select markets on Friday, April 9.  The crowd-pleasing documentary has been featured at the Sundance, Berlin, Deauville and San Sebastian Film Festivals and most recently played to sold-out shows at the Santa Barbara Film Festival.

The Tom DiCillo-directed documentary is narrated by Johnny Depp and has received applaud from the Doors themeslves.

“The way that Tom DiCillo wrote a narrative and put together old footage and Johnny narrating – an icon talking about an icon, there’s something new there, there’s something magic, there’s some depth.  You know, it’s not a geezer talking about the past.  There’s no talking heads.  Johnny takes you for a ride on The Doors train.  It sucks you right in.” – John Densmore

“It’s a really terrific movie and it tells you all about The Doors, all about the ‘60s, the riots, the love-ins, the good times, the bad times, the life, the aspirations, the death of a generation and you get to see Jim Morrison playing the part of Jim Morrison.  No actor plays Jim Morrison in this entire film, it’s the real Jim and the real me and the real Robby and the real John.  And it’s really cool.  It’s a great movie and I dug the heck out of it.” – Ray Manzarek

The soundtrack, out now, features 13-songs chronicling The Doors’ six albums with studio versions of classic tracks mixed with legendary live cuts including performances from The Ed Sullivan Show and The Isle Of Wight Festival.
